Symmetry and Balance
Balance and symmetry all relate to the way things are placed in a piece of art. Symmetry is mirroring an image. Both sides of the artwork are exactly alike. In my kaleidoscope, I used balance and symmetry by duplicating the original image and flipping it over each axis to create a mirror image. To add more to its affect, I duplicated the whole picture and just made it smaller in most cases. It helped to create more visual interest and depth in the picture. Now there is more than one exact copy of the picture in the artwork. I used the rulers in Photoshop to make sure the picture was aligned directly in the center to maximize the result. Each side of the artwork is a replica of the original image.
